Marine Layer Wines

First off, no, this winery is NOT associated with the clothing brand.

Marine Layer Wines is a tasting room located on Healdsburg Square in what I’m pretty sure used to be the BBQ place. The space is gorgeous, with filtered sunshine coming through a massive skylight. Even the bathrooms are gorgeous. For anyone with joint problems, though, the chairs were uncomfortable to say the least—too low to the ground and oddly shaped. I felt like I should have been lounging on Seder, but then I couldn’t reach the literature. It was just the flight list, so maybe it wasn’t a big loss. The noise level was also disruptive. It set my watch alarm off, and I spent half of the tasting with ear plugs.

Now, about the wine: Marine Layer is owned by two dudes who met at Banshee and their mission is to focus on Sonoma COAST wines. It seems they own one vineyard and then source the rest of their grapes.

We did the Single Vineyard Exploration flight. For $40pp we were able to taste 5 wines PLUS one seasonal (I guess the perks of being there at the end of the day). I was particularly intrigued to taste their Durrell Vineyard Chardonnay as well have tried THREE other Chards from that same vineyard! It’s amazing how grapes from the same terroir can taste completely different in the hands or a different wine maker. Husband was most-taken with two of the Pinot Noirs: the Dutton-Jentoff and the Dutton-Up (both 2022s)
